Betsy Byler, M.A., LPC-SAS,

Hi, I’m Betsy. I’m a licensed therapist, substance use counselor, clinical supervisor and a person in long-term recovery from substance use. When I started in our field I felt confident in my grad school education and life experience. In my first year as a therapist I learned quickly that I was missing a large chunk of information, specifically about substances.  I then began learning everything I could to help fill in the gaps.  I’m excited to bring this information to you so that you can bring more healing and freedom to your clients!

You might be thinking that you don't have many problem drinkers in your practice...

Research since 2020 has consistently shown that more people are drinking to cope with their lives and stress than in previous years' research. The changing way we are doing life and business since the pandemic started seems to be a common theme. This is especially true among women.

It seems that people's normal amount of alcohol consumption rose considerably over the three year span. One study estimated that days of drinking per month rose by as much as 14%. One thing we know about our clients is that our clients don't always tell us things unless we ask directly. What if our clients' drinking has increased too?

While most of us know why alcoholism is a problem, there are some risks that we should be aware of when it comes to problem drinking that hasn't reached alcoholic levels. There is a wide spectrum of drinking that takes place between recreation and addiction. This 2-hour training will cover what you need to know about this middle ground.
